In Skid, Damien Jalet’s creation for the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, executed between verticality and horizontality on a platform inclined by 34 degrees, the 17 dancers play with gravity and abandonment, in a choreography inspired by the limits and new possibilities offered by slope.
At times epic, dangerous, humorous or moving, skidding offers a new landscape of physical possibilities, creating a chain reaction of physical and emotional events.
The human body becomes the crossroad of will, resistance, collapse and resilience, where the relationship with others is often the only comfort against the call of emptiness.
Skid’s slope was created by New York artist Jim Hodges, while playful and multifunctional costumes were created by designer Jean-Paul Lespagnard, and music was composed by Christian Fennesz.
